The Heart of Generosity

“Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.” 2 Corinthians 9:10-11.

Our God is a generous God, who showed his generosity by sending His Son, Jesus, to die for us. God is incredibly generous. We can see this throughout scripture. A vast portion of the NT (New Testament) is about finance and how to be good stewards.

Here at Southampton Elim Church, we believe that the Bible clearly teaches that God asks us to bring the first and best of what he gives us back to Him. This is known as the tithe or tithing. The word tithe means 10. There is a biblical principle of giving 10% of our income back to God, through the “storehouse” or the place where we are spiritually fed, (local church). This principle was first practiced in the book of Genesis and stems from a relational obedience with God. On top of this, we encourage you to respond to God’s prompting to give offerings above and beyond the tithe, which can go to the local church, individuals or other ministries, charities or organisations.

All gifts to the church are used towards extending the Kingdom of God here in Southampton and our region on the south coast. As a church we are financing a variety of community programmes, ministries and missional projects. We believe it is God’s desire for people to be debt free, and to be generous. Our church is part of the Elim Pentecostal Churches in the UK & Ireland (registered charity number: 251549,) and as such are subject to strict financial governance and ethical practices.
